A flame detector is a device which actually “sees” the fire. Thanks to a complete range of IR and/or UV probes, the device measures wavelengths in the IR/UV range. If this measure matches the known level from a fire, the device goes into alarm.

Such a detection method is well suited where you cannot proceed with regular smoke detection, either because your premises are often open or outside, or you know you will have smoke as a normal consequence of an operation conducted in the place you want to protect.

Such a device is ideal in open hangars, military hangars, waste factories etc.
